14 de March de 2025

We spoke to Victoria Perez, Market Development at DS Smith Tecnicarton, a leading international group in sustainable packaging solutions, specialising in the design and manufacture of innovative packaging that optimises the supply chain.

With more than 25 years of experience, DS Smith Tecnicarton is a leader in the development of customised industrial packaging solutions. Founded in 1989, the company has specialised in the design, manufacture and supply of high performance packaging, standing out for its capacity for innovation. With 11 production plants in Spain, Portugal, France and Morocco, it offers a close service adapted to the needs of its customers.

Focused on industrial sectors, mainly automotive, metalworking and bulk, we develop packaging solutions that optimise logistics, reduce costs and ensure maximum product protection. Our packaging is designed for automotive components, machinery, industrial equipment and high volume products, ensuring their integrity throughout the supply chain.

  • Cardboard packaging: Folding containers, bulk packaging for solids and liquids, and heavy-duty solutions for various industrial applications.
  • Reusable packaging: Returnable plastic containers, metal structures with interior packaging and thermoformed trays, designed to optimise space and reduce logistics costs.
  • Inner packaging packaging: Customised solutions in flexible and rigid materials that guarantee the protection and correct securing of parts during transport and storage.

At DS Smith Tecnicarton we are committed to sustainability and innovation, developing efficient packaging adapted to the demands of the industrial sector.

2. Why did you decide to go for Mindtech in its fourth edition in 2025?

DS Smith Tecnicarton is backing Mindtech 2025 for the second time, reaffirming our commitment to the industry and our key role as a provider of industrial packaging solutions.

The fair is a strategic meeting point where we can connect with automotive, metalworking and capital goods companies. Our participation in Mindtech allows us to show how our packaging solutions can improve the competitiveness of companies in the sector, identify trends, establish strategic alliances and continue contributing to the development of the industrial sector.

3.What is the added value for your company when participating in this fair?

The added value for our company is the key environment in which it is held, within the Iberian Pole, where we have production plants in Vigo, Portugal and Morocco. This proximity allows us to offer an agile, efficient service adapted to the needs of the market, consolidating our presence and strengthening relationships with customers and strategic partners.

4.What will you be presenting at Mindtech 2025?

Among our main novelties, we will present the Tecnipack V3, an evolution in our returnable packaging line. This new version incorporates an ultra-fast front folding system, which optimises operator movements and reduces handling times, resulting in significant savings in operational costs. It has also been designed to offer greater resistance and durability in demanding industrial environments, improving safety and ergonomics in the logistics process.

We will also present several Heavy-Duty corrugated cardboard solutions, including the winner of the WorldStar Award, a prestigious international packaging organisation, where for the second consecutive year we have been winners with this type of customised packaging made from 100% recyclable cardboard, a highly valued alternative to single-use circuits in the industrial sector. This solution stands out for its high performance in protection and resistance, offering an ecological option without compromising product safety. Its international recognition reinforces our commitment to sustainability and innovation in the industrial sector, providing companies with an efficient and environmentally friendly alternative.

5.What do you think is the differential value of the metal industry and its associated technologies in the Iberian Pole in particular?

We consider that the Iberian pole presents a significant differential value in the metal industry and its associated technologies, due to a combination of strategic factors and unique capabilities such as tradition, innovation and its strategic location.

Its long experience in the sector has allowed it to develop a specialised know-how that facilitates the execution of projects with high quality standards. Moreover, its geographical position offers privileged access to international markets, boosting the competitiveness of the region’s companies. The diversity of its industrial ecosystem, ranging from the production of raw materials to the manufacture of components and end products, fosters collaboration between sectors and technological innovation. Added to this is a strong commitment to sustainability and digitisation, with the incorporation of advanced technologies such as Industry 4.0, robotics and additive manufacturing, ensuring its growth and adaptation to global demands.

6. What challenges do you see facing the industry in particular?

Industry in general is facing challenges such as digitalisation, sustainability and supply chain optimisation, key aspects to ensure its competitiveness in a globalised and constantly evolving environment. Automation and Industry 4.0 are transforming production processes, while pressure to reduce environmental impact is driving the use of more sustainable and efficient materials.

From our perspective, in the Iberian hub, companies in the metal-mechanical and capital goods sector must address specific challenges, such as the need for packaging that protects increasingly complex and fragile components, the reduction of logistics costs and the improvement in the efficiency of their transport flows. In addition, with increasing internationalisation, it is essential to have packaging solutions adapted to different export regulations and requirements, ensuring the safety of products in global markets.

7. What is needed to meet these challenges and maintain the competitiveness of the industry?

To meet these challenges, from the Industrial Packaging environment, companies need advanced packaging solutions capable of improving logistical efficiency, reducing environmental impact and optimising operating costs. At DS Smith Tecnicarton, we develop innovative packaging that facilitates process automation, waste reduction and space optimisation in transport and storage, thus contributing to a more competitive and sustainable industry.

Our reusable and 100% recyclable packaging allows Iberian Pole companies to adapt to new environmental requirements and reduce their carbon footprint, while our interior packaging ensures the protection of high-value parts, avoiding damage and additional costs. Through innovation and a customised approach, we help companies overcome their challenges and maintain their position in an increasingly demanding market.
